Geocache Description:

Join us for a weekend event at Gull Point State Park on West Okoboji for the first GeoBoji. ... on the Saturday after Labor Day.

There will be food (if you bring it yourself) --- charcoal and grill will be furnished for Saturday noon. We'll provide a limited amount of finger food throughout the afternoon; bring some along to share if you like. The picnic shelter at Gull Point holds 100 and has electricity. The historic Gull Point Lodge is nearby along with a campground (RV + tent, over 100 spaces) and swimming beach.

Events will be planned for Saturday, September 10, with several GeoContests and ---- PRIZES ----. We will anticipate people arriving between 9 and 10 at the shelter. During the morning, we've set up a dozen or so temporary geocaches in the Gull Point SP (a 2-3 mile level hiking loop) that will be used for a contest. Link to the HTML pages or download the GPX file. Seekers can go individually or team up as they want. We'll gather back at the shelter around noon for lunch. Saidcache is bringing along a bunch of travel bugs to pass out.

In the afternoon, there will be two virtual cache contests --- one at Arnolds Park amusement park. Link to the HTML pages or download the GPX file. There is no admission charge unless you want to take some rides. This is the last weekend for the season for the park. The second virtual cache contest for the afternoon involves looking at a specific type of common target in the Lakes area -- all within less than 10 miles. Seekers can go individually or team up ---- or just hang around Gull Point for conversation. There are also many permanent geocaches in the area of all types -- puzzles, small camos, evil blinkies, and .... yes, even a few regulars in mosquito infested swamps. Those can keep you occupied the rest of the weekend. For those interested in the puzzle caches in the area, several require research before arriving (Elementally, Boji Brain, and Milford Creek); a couple can only be solved on site (the Perfect Tree and Mattock Granger); and the rest (Ease and Candy Corn).... well....

For those staying overnight, there are many other campgrounds nearby in addition to that at Gull Point, both state park and private. Since the tourist horde thins out considerably after Labor Day, there will also be many cabin and motel accomodations available within a few miles --- email me if you want recommendations.

Post a note here if you plan to come or have any questions. Put this site on your watchlist to get updates automatically.

All are welcome: IA, MN or wherever; experienced, novice, or just interested.

At GeoBoji, I'll have my laptop running GSAK which can download all the waypoints through a serial port to Garmin and Magellon GPSrs. It can also burn the data onto CD to transfer to your laptop if you have any other methodology. I'll also have hardcopy printouts for those wanting to tranfer waypoints manually.
