This cache is located west of New Paltz, NY near Duck Pond on the Mohonk Preserve, a private multi-use area. Drive to the end (rough road) of Pine Road, off of Butterville Road, and park in the small lot at the end of the road. You'll need a map to locate Duck Pond from here. See www.mohonkpreserve.org re: directions, maps, day fees, membership, etc.
The pond is located directly beneath Skytop Tower, on the east side, which can be seen on top of the beautiful quartz conglomerate cliffs from New Paltz.
This cache was put together by Jim Longbotham, Pilar Otto and their Mohonk Preserve Daycamp- Mountainside Adventures. The kids LOVE exploring Duck Pond and especially enjoy watching (not feeding!) Mosshead, the giant Snapping Turtle of the pond. He can be seen oftentimes at the southern end of the pond. The kids came up with the mysterious name for the cache and whether you have kids with you or not, this will be a fun and beautiful hike.
The cache is in a tan tool box and contains a whole variety of things like pens, action figures, kaleidoscope, puzzle, candles, cards, pens, 50 cent piece and more, as well as a log book to record your visit.
