Østre brygge Brønnøya
= Eastern pier, Well Island (Brønn=Well, Øy=Island, the island was
known for the good water, and the sail ships bunkered water from
the wells on Brønnøya). Østre brygge Brønnøya is one of the four
old steamship piers on Brønnøya. This cache is dedicated to
M/S Silius
English Silius 72
brt/150 passengers, build 1944 at Roland båtbyggeri. It was
initially build for ship routes from Kristiansand, and in 1952 it
was sold to A/S Vestfjorden. The ship route was
Oslo-Gåsøya-Ostøya-Høyerholmen-Hareholmen-Brønnøya N- Brønnøya
Ø-Langåra- Brønnøya S- Spanlokket –Torbjørnsøy, Bjerkøya-
Hvalstrand. M/S Silius was in regular traffic from Oslo to Brønnøya
in the period 1952 to 1958.
Norsk M/S Silius 72
brt/150 passasjerer, bygget 1944 på Roland båtbyggeri. Dette var en
moderne båt bygget i tre og med en 240 hk Buck dieselmotor. Det ble
bygget for å gå i rute Kristiansand-Mandal og Kristiansand-Mandal
sammen med M/S Maarten. Navnene stammer fra Vilhelm Krags
forfatterskap. Ruten til Mandal kom aldri i gang, og M/S Silius ble
solgt til det nystiftede A/S Vestfjorden i 1952. A/S Vestfjorden
var hytteeiernes eget båtselskap og hadde som formål å opprettholde
en båtforbindelse til øyene i Vestfjorden etter konkursen i A/S
Asker, Røyken & Hurum høsten 1951. M/S Silius gikk sin første
tur 31. mai 1952 (pinseaften). Kaptein ombord var Victor Milvang,
mens hans kone betjente kiosken. Vinteren 1953 gikk Silius
vinterrute til øyene i Vestfjorden og videre helt til Sætre i
Hurum, men dette var ikke lønnsomt, og fra sommeren 1953
trafikkerte M/S Silius ruten

Ø-Langåra- Brønnøya S- Spanlokket –Torbjørnsøy-Bjerkøya-Hvalstrand.
Den gikk alle dager i perioden mai-september, og i helgene fra
påske og ut november. M/S Silius var en populær båt og hadde en
pent innredet salong i lakkert eik og seter trukket med skinn. M/S
Silius krevde stort mannskap, og var dyr i drift. Dette tappet
aksjekapitalen, og etter at driftsåret 1958 var avsluttet innså man
at aksjekapitalen var gått tapt. M/S Silius ble solgt til Danmark i
1959 hvor den gikk fram til 1968. Da forsvant den ut av
skipsregistrene og ble antageligvis hugget opp.

53.300 E10 31.650. For time schedule see www.rigmor.no. Private
boat is not recomended due to lack of places to make fast the
boat.
With car: You have to
park at Søndre Nesøya N59 51.560 E10 31.060. On other places you
will need a parking oblate. In the summer it’s a cable ferry at N59
51.580 E10 31.550, in the winter it’s a floating bridge.

NOTE: This is a popular beach and you must expect a lot of muggles
here at warm summer days. After 6pm the beach is normally
empty.
