Geocache Description:

The Illinois and Michigan Canal has caches placed at its very beginning (GCMZM2). However there were none at the western end where the canal empties into the Illinois River. This cache remedies that with a straightforward two-stage multi.

THE FIRST STAGE GOES MISSING WITH SOME REGULARITY. SO TO MAKE YOUR TRIP WORTH WHILE I'M PROVIDING AN ASMUTH AND DISTANCE TO TAKE A PROJECTION FROM THE FIRST STAGE TO OBTAIN THE COORDINATES OF THE FINAL. SEE HINT FOR THE NUMBERS.

Most of the original towpath is now a bike trail. There is a lot of information on the trail and the history of the canal. A good starting reference is (visit link)
The posted coordinates are for the first stage. Parking is about a mile away @ N41°19.558' W89°5.683'. From there you can bike or hike on last mile of the I & M Canal bike trail to a picnic area consisting of a concrete slab and a couple of benches. The first stage isn’t very far from there, where you will find the coordinates to the final. Then a few hundred feet of game trail is all that’s required.

PLEASE REPLACE THE CACHE CONCEALED THE SAME WAY YOU FOUND IT. This is very important to protect it from floods.

1.Geocache is placed on Department managed property with permission.
2. Do not place the following items in the Geocache: Food items, inappropriate, offensive, or hazardous materials.
3. It is the visitor’s responsibility to orient themselves with policies and rules pertaining to this Department managed site.
