Phipps Cutting
The cache is located near the old convict constructed Phipps cutting that runs above the Goulburn River. The cutting was constructed so that in times of flood travellers could travel above a flooded river. Recently, in the 1950's, the present tar road was blasted into the hillside. Take the walk up from the car park for a scenic view of the Goulburn River valley. Have a break on the bench and enjoy the view. This old road continues quite a way past this point, but you don't have to follow it for long before heading off the track up towards the cliffs. The cache is in a small cave, guarded by some Wollemi dinosaurs. After geocaching, spend some time exploring and picnicing, there is lots to explore here. Not far away is wine country, so enjoy a local drop or too on your way home!
Note: If using the 1:25,000 topographic map the cutting is marked as Folpp's cutting.
