Short or long walk to Colwith Force
Colwith Force is, quite simply, a stunning waterfall, and forms part of the Colwith Circle walk, the river is the Brathay which drains all the hills in the Langdale area. This is a very nice gentle walk and not too strenuous, with good views and plenty to see; there are even one or two pubs along the route should you wish to stop for a little, light refreshment.
You can start just before the river and cross a stile to Colwith Force, you’ll soon hear it coming: a six-tier torrent blasting into the ravine below, where a tangle of oaks, poleaxed by the January gales, litters the stream like pick-up sticks.
The best view of the falls is from a gravelled side path below the falls, which drop in several stages down a total height of about 40 feet, with the final double spout being the most spectacular feature. It is set in beautiful woodland making it one of the most enchanting places in Lakeland.
Can be done as an individual cache or combined with two new caches and two oldies makes a pleasant circular around Colwith Force - parking at GC3XBF5.
