Kapadokya’ya hos geldiniz! Welcome to Cappadocia! Enjoy the history and beauty of this land where you can see 1000 year old churches carved from rock at the Göreme Open-Air Museum, take a hot-air balloon ride, hike in the breath-taking Ihlara Valley, do wine-tasting at the Turasan Winery in Ürgüp, visit one of many underground cities such as Derinkuyu or Kaymakli, make your own pot in a potter’s workshop in Avanos, visit a restored caravansaray on the Silk Road, visit the castle of Uçhisar, and enjoy testi kebap where they cook the food in a clay jar then break it open to serve you your meal.
This cache is accessible 24 hours a day, but after dark be sure to bring a flashlight with you. If you're looking for this cache in the summer, be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water with you as it gets quite hot here in the summer.
The cache was placed with a Garmin eTrex and had an accuracy of 15ft/5m at the time of placement. The cache container is a small, metallic elliptical-shaped Ülker Rulokat tin.
Getting to this cache from Göreme is not difficult. From the Göreme Open-Air Museum road there is a dirt road on the left that goes past camping grounds and through Rose Valley that leads directly to Çavusin where you will find the cache. Once you reach the cache location, please replace the cache in the same location and cover it completely with the surrounding rocks. Also, stealth may be required if it's a busy day. Whilst you're there, enjoy the landscape and enjoy the great photo opportunities!
This cache is for the fun of acquiring different, unusual, new keychains as well as seeing some interesting places in Turkey. Please put a keychain in the cache if you take one out. If you don’t have a keychain to exchange, I have also left some other items that you can trade such as Turkish coins or a blue eye.
The original cache contents include:
- geocache note in English and Turkish
- a Cappadocian leather-bound logbook with Darsantre card inside
- a Swissotel pen
- a Yapi Kredi purple ‘vadaaaaah!’ creature keychain
- a nazar boncuk (blue eye) keychain
- a Hazir Kart keychain
- a colorful pouch keychain
- a Mike’s hard lemonade keychain
- Turkish coins - TL 10.000 (1), TL 25.000 (1)
- a small, wall-hanging nazar boncuk (blue eye)
- a piece of Avanos pottery
- a plastic army figurine
The main “tourist” towns in Kapadokya are Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, and Avanos. If you’re looking for a place to stay, in Göreme there is a charming pension, the Gümüş Pansiyon. The pension is about a 25 minute walk to the Göreme Open-Air Museum (next to which is my other geocache, An American Geocacher in Turkey II).
Enjoy this cache with all its surrounding environs! It's one of my very favorite places in Turkey to visit.
