A webcam cache where you can be pictured at the visitor centre
beside the Lagan
Weir in the heart of Belfast. The web page says the camera is
on the Europa Hotel. It is not. It is on the Royal Mail building,
close to the Lagan Lookout
Visitor Centre. There is an entry charge to the visitor centre
but the nearby car park, owned by the centre, is free and is the
starting point for anyone planning a boat trip on the Lagan. The
coordinates on this page are for the car park.
A bit of practice in using this webcam would be time well spent
(if the camera was working!). It will be necessary for your
assistant to 'find' you on the streets of Belfast using the pan,
tilt and zoom controls on the web page, and then to capture you
waving your arms and gps in the air. No substitutes will be
accepted. My suggested location is the circular ramp leading up
to the footbridge across the Lagan weir. To direct the camera to
this location start by clicking on the Start Control button which
will allow control of the camera for 90 seconds. Use the camera
preset to point at the Belfast Hilton. Now tilt down until the
circular ramp comes in to view and zoom in fully. Anyone standing
on the ramp, facing the fish (you can't miss it), will be in full
view. But if you feel another location works better for you, go for
it.
The latest news is not good. The camera is still not working and
the link to the camera is broken. I will keep this cache active
until asked to remove it. In the meantime pictures of Geocachers
beside the fish will be accepted as proof of finding the cache.
