Gravel road but suitable for Caravans if driven with care. This is a well used shortcut from Norseman to Perth. As always make sure you ask at the nearest roadhouse to decide if the track is in good condition. Have adult supervision as snakes have been seen nearby. Beware of the location and rough terrain.
The drive from Norseman to Perth can be shortcut through the Wheatbelt to Hyden where you can see "Wave Rock".
This trip can be an alternative to the Via Kalgoolie or Via Esperance trip that most east/west travelers do.
The road is mostly in good condition but can become very corrogated at times if the council hasnt had it re-graded. We went through in winter and it was superb. The road is used by many other travelers so it may seem remote but its not unused like many other tracks in the area.
Along the way there are numerous places to stop and camp or have a lunch break.
One of these stops is at a formation called "Breakaways". These have been formed by the erosion of softer soils leaving the coarser soil exposed.
The Breakaways site is maintained by the Shire of Dundas and has numerous camping areas and Composting toilets. There are picnic tables and to make it even better, No fees are charged and its clean and well protected from any prevailing wind.
Keep away from overhanging rock walls as cliffs can fall unexpectedly (signs do warn you).
We would recommend this as a place to overnight, winter will be very cold but there are places to light fires. Summer will be hot (no fires permitted at that time of the year).
We have placed the container at the low end of the breakaways above the cliff face. Take extra care when/if climbing so as not to damage yourself or the rock formation.
Note: Replace it as found.Hide it well from Muggles as there are footprints in the area.
