Journey into the past and visit the site of the old Argonne Forest Amusement Park.
The Argonne Forest Park thrived in the 1920's and boasted a go cart track, swimming pool, baseball fields, canoe and pony rental, dance hall, as well as, concessions and a carnival midway. The depression brought and end to the park. Now all that remains are the memories and a few remaining artifacts, that you will tour on this geocache. The Five River Metro Parks has recently posted interpretive signs to give you more details on the old park's history and provide vintage pictures to help your mind recreate the site. The Argonne forest site is located in Possum Creek Metro Park. Enter from Frytown Road using the main park road way (not the one to the picnic shelters.) Park at the Argonne Forest trailhead which will be the first parking lot on the right, about a half mile after you enter the park. Follow the purple trail. All caches are on this trail. There is no bushwacking involved per orders of Fiver River Metro Parks. Expect to walk about 1.5 miles. Enjoy your hike and my favorite section of Possum Creek Metro Park!
