To reach the park from Ranch Road 620 in Lakeway, turn west onto
Lakeway Blvd. After about half a mile, turn right on Duck Lake Dr.
Go about a quarter mile and turn right on Palos Verdes Dr. The
trailhead is located at N30°21.821' W97°58.145'. (You can
access the trail system by going to N30°22.066' W97°57.835' and
following the arrows painted on the pavement, but if you do, you
will bypass much of the scenic beauty this area has to offer, and
to share that beauty is the whole reason behind placing this
cache.)
The trails are well marked and maintained, but I recommend that
you click here for more information and for a trail
map that you can print and carry with you on the trail. (Use a
color printer if possible and set to landscape.)
As you look at the map, you will see that there are several
possible routes to the cache. I prefer the “primitive” trails, but
they are all nice, so try different ways out and back, and see
which is your favorite. The hike is about 1.7 miles round trip with
some ups and downs no matter which way you go, so take some
drinking water and maybe even a picnic, as there is a nice place
for one at your destination.
Please resist the urge to take any off-trail shortcuts, both to
preserve the environment, and so that you won’t miss any of the
scenic views along the way.
The cache is located within 40 feet of the trail, so please
stay on the trail until you are within this distance.
Enjoy your hike!
