Fifth Avenue Swimming Club Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

8actual: Someone has been taking the cache, but this time they took the cache and the sign it was attached to. Not worth the trouble to remake everything so it's history.

Geocache Description:

I know placement of this cache goes against everything held sacred by all cachers but I really wanted area cachers to know about this place. It has a wonderful history. Owners have approved the cache site and only require that you do not ogle the members as they enjoy the club.

The Fifth Avenue Swim Club

It’s not quite a swimming pool. But it’s not just a hole in the ground filled with water either.

It’s the Fifth Ave Swimming Club, one of Redlands’ best-kept secrets

“Most people have heard of it,” said club president Ward Krause. “But they don’t know really where it is.”

That may be because the secluded swimming club, at Fifth Ave and Ford Street, doesn’t have a real address. But it’s been around for 90 years.

The club was established in 1907, some say by a group of wealthy families whos children were the only ones allowed to swim there.

The city acquired the property in 1912 when it took over the Domestic Water Co. and leased the site to the club.

In 1959 the city sold the pool to the Fifth Avenue Swimming Club for $3,000 and used the money to buy property downtown.

In the 1950s the club was the place to be. Private pools were rare, and membership was by invitation only and subject to approval by the board of directors.

The entrance to to Swim club is off Ford and not Fifth Avenue.

Bring a pen cause the cache is a lip gloss container and has only room for the log.

There is a FTF coin.
