This cache will take you on a fairly long walk around Mapledurham and near to Mapledurham House. On a recent walk in this area we spotted two red kites flying quite low so don’t forget to bring a camera!
The main cache is a small tupperware container. Original contents were: Photo frame, 5 Franc coin, necklace, mouse motif, purse and County Hopper TB.
This won’t be a cache and dash. We suggest you look at a map to plan your route as well as where to park before you set off. At the moment we have no suggested parking but below are directions to Mapledurham House from the website. The Dewdrops kindly recommended parking at N51 29.170 W01 02.163- note the almshouses nearby.(If anyone else finds a good parking spot please mark it and let us know and we'll add it to the listing)
Directions to Mapledurham House: On the A4074 heading out of Caversham, turn left opposite the Pack Saddle towards Mapledurham Village.
At the old Cross roads (Trench Green) Turn left towards Mapledurham Village follow this road for 1 mile. Take great care on this road!
As you approach the village you will see a post box in the wall and a telephone box. Continue through the village until you get to the end of the road. Pass through the white gates and follow the signs to the Estate Office.
Mapledurham House and Watermill are open most weekends and Bank Holidays from Easter Sunday through to the end of September. Visit the website for more info www.mapledurham.co.uk The Watermill dates from the 1400s and is the only watermill on the Thames that still works.
