I would call it a mini-multi-micro-cache, but it
works well for this area. I designed it to guide you to a secret
little road that traverses through a little patch of nature
right in the middle of the Apponaug . As a bonus, the final
cache is in a small historic graveyard where the founder of the
Apponaug and his descendants are buried.
The first leg is an easy "metal guardrail" cache
designed primarily to get you parked in the right place. The second
leg is a small cache suitable for a log, pencil and some small
swag.
The best way to get to the cache is to come on
Route 5 from its intersection with Route 113. Follow your GPSr when
you get to the Appanaug Rotary to make a sharp right turn. Park on
the right side of the road just before the guard rail. This
is a two-way street, so watch for traffic both directions. Be
careful to stay completely off the street when you park. I have
included coordinates to an alternate parking area with lots more
room, this may make it easier to stay out of the way.
After you find the first leg, the actual cache is less than 100
yards away. There is NO BUSHWHACKING necessary. There
is a pathway; it's easy to find.
** IMPORTANT ** There is no need to move or disturb anything in the
cemetary to retrieve this cache. Not only is it bad karma, it won't
help you find the prize. And remember to CITO! Thanks
After you find the cache and return to your car,
drive out across the bridge.. A left turn at the first stop sign
will lead you to Tollgate Road (Route 113). Two left turns will
lead you to the Apponaug Rotary and its many Routes out.
