Geocache Description:

A nice walk - whichever way you twist it.

This cache was supposed to be the Bullocks Mostly Flat Hut Cache. But the signposting on the trails here is poor at best and I got twisted around had had a lovely 2km walk towards the Thredbo Diggings instead.

I don’t think I have ever seen quite so much Wombat activity in an area before. Careful not to fall in!

Having solved that problem, I found a beautiful vista of the river to admire. With snow covered plants on the other side, this majestic river is a great view from the cache site. Returned later (the short way) with kids and hubby, to take some photographs from down on the river as well.

It’s hidden above the height snow is likely to get to and should be fairly protected from wombats and other ground loving animals. As always, make sure it goes back the same way you found it. My not tall kids found it OK so you should too. The container is a Sistema container. Mediocrely stocked but got a couple of nice things in it. Plenty of room available.

You have a handful of options to collect this mostly simple traditional cache.

Option 1 – The short, small children friendly way. This is about a 500m walk along a goat track.
Park at s36 26.397 e148 26.519
Turn left at the bridge (the bridge takes you to the hut, but I never did get there).

Option 2 – The way I went originally. Wander up to the water tanks located at s36.26.552 e148 26.403. Anyway is probably as good as any other. I followed a couple of tracks to there. Follow the goat (wombat??) track to s36 26.664 e146 26.318 and turn right as the sign directs. When given another option, turn right again towards the cache. Keep following this track back to the car park after finding it. Doing it this way gives you a nice loop track. Still not too hard for the kids, but probably not after a days skiing.

Option 3 – Ignore everything above, park at the ski tube car park somewhere and have a nice walk.

Option 4 – Walk in from the Thredbo Diggings, which is further up the Alpine Way than the Ski Tube.
