A 4km return hike on a maintained trail takes you around a pretty lake and past the cache location.
This cache takes you to the south end of Kentucky Lake where you can admire the stunning turquoise water, listen to the haunting calls of loons and if you’re lucky see a beaver or osprey working for a living.
Park in the provincial park at the north end of the lake. The only parking for day visitors is at N49° 54.335, W120° 33.940. Please don’t park at the boat launch as it is exceptionally annoying for the people trying to maneuver their boat trailers into the water to have to also avoid crunching your car.
The lake is circled by a relatively smooth maintained trail. The full circuit is 4Km and the cache is roughly half way around so it doesn’t matter which way you start. I recommend doing the full circuit so you can enjoy the views from both sides of the lake.
There are a couple of benches located at N49° 53.288, W120° 33.946. This is nice spot to stop for a drink and to soak in the peaceful surroundings.
The cache is located about 40m off the trail across semi-open range land. The name of the cache comes from the fact that you must “turn around” and walk away from the turquoise water to find it. This cache has many trade items suitable for children as well as packages of sidewalk chalk. I thought it would be fun for cachers who are camped at the park to draw (or help their children draw) the Geocaching.com logo on the pavement outside their campsite… you never know who you might meet.
