This cache has been archived.

Rich the Bushwhacker: I was unable to find the cache in the snow. It might be there, it might not. I'll check it when the snow melts.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located on something rare in Rhode Island, a mountain.

Benson mountain is a long low ridge on the border of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Actually, it isn't much of a hill from the Rhode Island side, the person who named it must have come in from the steep Connecticut side.

Cache is 0.6 miles from the parking area as the Bushwhacker walks, about a mile if you follow the dirt roads which take you to within 500 feet of the cache. The total elevation gain from the parking lot is 80 feet.

The cache is about 20 feet from the highest point I could find. My Mapsource maps put the peak 300 feet north, but that looks like it's a lot lower than where the cache is located.

Start from the Parking area for Buck Hill management area, off Buck Hill Road at N41 59.114 W071 47.353

A nice map of the area can be found at: (visit link)

Hunting season for archers is October 1 - February 31. Cache is in a area likely to be hunted and cachers should use common sense and wear orange. Avoid visiting near dawn and dusk when deer, and hunters are active.
