Find this small cammo'd green decon container on a lovely moderate loop hike in the San Gabriel Mountains high country
I couldn't believe there were no caches in this great hiking area! My friends and I have backpacked and snowcamped here for years and know cachers will also enjoy this quiet, beautiful mountain area.
Start at Cloudburst Summit or at Buckhorn Campground, and do this as a 5+ mi loop (without a car shuttle it will be longer), though it is "upside down" - you lose elevation first (approx 1300') and then gain (1000') when you go out. General elevation is between 5500' and 7000'.
In between, you will want to dally at beautiful Cooper Canyon Trail camp (the cache is on a slope S/E of the trail camp), at several shady creek crossings, and at lovely Cooper Canyon Falls. Note the large and healthy incense cedar, white fir, jeffrey and sugar pines.
Birders - enjoy (in summer) the large flocks of Western Bluebirds, Steller's jays, nuthatches, woodpeckers, flycatchers, etc. Maybe even an ouzel in the creek.
