in our disclaimer.
Both parts of this cache lie just off of a commonly used dirt road.
Any vehicle would be fine driving on it.
The first stage of the cache resides on the property of the historic church building belonging to the Arbon Branch of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pocatello Stake. This building has been called by natives of the valley for many years, the "Arbon Church".
According to the book, "Bannock Valley", by Laurie Jean Ward (now Call), the Arbon church house was finished in 1928. The cost of the structure was $11,500.00. The chapel was dedicated by Heber J. Grant, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time. He said that the construction of the building by so small a group spoke much for the industriousness of the ward membership. "There is no surer way to insure a long life then by hard work and clean living," he said. The dedicatory services consisted of a morning and an afternoon session. President Grant and Elder Bryant S. Hinckley spoke at both.
My Grandfather, Willard John Andersen served as bishop of the Arbon Ward from 1939-1948.
A new structure is being built across the street to accomodate modern day needs and to be handicap accessible. The fate of the original historic building will yet be finalized.
This cache is a memorial to the building that has stood for nearly 80 years in our remote valley.
The coordinates to this cache should lead you to a US survey marker on the property. On that marker, there are two sets of four digit numbers. The first is the elevation of the building. The second is the year in which the marker was established.
The second set of coordinates are as follow:
N 42° 27.aaa W 112° 34.bbb
Where:
aaa = The sum of the four digits that make up the elevation as listed on the marker then add that to 339.
bbb = The sum of the four digits of the year the marker was established then add that to 026.
The second location will take you to a spot that still views the church building. It is on the same side of the road bordering on private property. There is no need for the geocacher to go into private property on this.
This is a microcache stuffed in a 35mm film canister with only a log. Please bring your own pencil or pen to sign the log with.
