Silver Lake Canoe Cache Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pofe: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks,

Geocache Description:

Located In Hope, NJ at Silver lake. A canoe or kayak is required to access the cache. There are no hints for this cache.

Parking available at (N40 56.187 W74 56.764)

After going on vacation in Maine and doing some great Canoe Geo Caches I tried to find some good ones in Northern New Jersey. There aren't many canoe caches in this area so I created one here at this nice and often overlooked lake.

This is a 2-stage multi located on a very small pair of lakes in Hope NJ. After the first stage, the rest of the cache must be done from a canoe or kayak.

Estimated total length is about (1 Mile).

The final cache is hidden in a place that cannot be reached from land, it can only be found by canoe/kayak so please don't try on foot as the land surrounding the lake is mostly private. The final cache is almost accessible from your canoe/kayak, when the water raises up a little you could grab it without getting out. Please be careful getting it, the area is quite muddy and you could leave footprints (or sink in the mud) if you do not step carefully.

If the water level rises up extremely high from a long rain (this probably will not happen but please check to make sure it is still enabled before going out) If the water rises to a near flood level I will disable the cache until it is leveled off again. I would not recommend going to it in the winter, as the ice is usually very thin where it is hidden. The cache is tied to land in case the water rises or it is dropped, please be sure to rehide the cache carefully.

Parking is available on Smith Street on the lakeside of the road where there is parking for only a couple of cars on the shoulder. You can carry a canoe or kayak down a short 100' path to the lake. There is private property on both sides of the trail all of the way to the lake so please stay on the trail (please be advised that the signs posting private property refer to the property on the sides of the trail). Follow the small trail down to the cement dock (N40 56.193 W74 56.802) this is where the first stage is hidden. Some days there is heavy muggle activity on the dock so please look carefully.

The first stage is a micro that will lead you to the final location. The final cache is an ammo case and was started with 2 small handheld video games, a pedometer, a couple of fishing lures, a fish scale, a small slinky, Mt. Washington key chain, Merrill Creek trail map, a compass, a carabineer, boat key travel bug, White Jeep travel bug, and a first to find prize of a nice handheld fishing game.

After the cache hunt feel free to roam around on the water, there is very good fishing here, but catch and release only due to the fact that the lake is not stocked.
