Cache is located at the old Taylor Homestead on Taylor Pond. Cache is accessed by a network of Snow Mobile Trails (14 miles of trails) or by Boat.
Taylor Pond is a Man made Pond. On the Western end of the Pond is a Earthen Dam. It is recommended that you park at the State Campground and start your hike/paddle from there.
The History of this Valley is one steeped in local legand.
This is the legand. You can hunt for the facts yourself.
General Taylor was given Deed to this Valley for his Gallantry in the War of 1812. When he arrived here he found a steep walled valley with only a small stream flowing through it. He built a Homestead in the Valley and was joined there by his family. For the next several years his family tried to Farm this Valley but the soil was rocky and mostly sand.
Around the turn of the 20th century they decided to log the Hillsides. They found the Hills to steep to be able to get their Logs out. So, they Dammed the Stream and began floating the logs to near what is now the Campground. During the Great Depression Era, the WPA and CCC built the current Dam. It took four years for the Stream to fill what is now Taylor Pond. The Family also moved from the Valley to the site where the Cache is placed durring this time.
Once the Forest surrounding this Pond was exhausted the Taylor Family began the current Campground and turned the Logging Roads into the Snow Mobile Trail system.
The last Taylor gave the area to the State around 1960. It was to be used as a free recreation area.
Well, that is the local legand.
Cache is a 50 cal Ammo Box with the usuall trade items and a special prize for the FTF.
