Matty's Moods Traditional Geocache
Gralorn: It has been out for a good few years now and is falling into disrepair a little too often to keep being maintained so archiving it. This will certainly enable others to use the area for more update caches to be laid in a beautiful part of the county.

This cache gets its name from our lovely Grandson Matty, who can
never seem to make his mind up about what he wants to do, and when
he does, never knows when or where to do it. Life is just so
difficult when you are so young!
This Traditional Cache is situated in the Wiltshire countryside at
a location that can be found on a OS map called 'Mother Anthony's
Well'. This is situated on the lower slope of Roundway Hill not far
from the villages of Bromham, Rowde and the town of Devizes. Mother
Anthony's Well was in its time a sacred well located near a
Romano-British dwelling called Verlucio, about half a mile from
Olivers Castle. The Castle is an Iron Age fort approximately 1.2
hectares, it was a single ditch and bank design with its post holes
for the gates having been located on its Eastern Entrance. The
cache consists of a 2 litre camo painted lock box inside a camo
bag.
This cache is rated as an overall difficulty of 2 due to tree cover
at the site. The overall terrain difficulty can however differ
considerably. This depends on which approach you take. Straight
down Roundway Hill and back up to the car parking area would I feel
constitute a difficulty level of 5. Coming down from the same
parking area via Olivers Castle on the defined footpath, with its
glorious views, a level 3, and then taking the defined footpath
that runs parallel to the hill from the Roundway road a level 2. No
route is suitable for pushchairs. Parking is very limited in
places, but there is ideal parking is at N51° 22.922 W001° 59.694,
where it is also then possible to carry out the Roundway Down cache
(GCHJEH) as well. Within a ten minute drive you may also visit the
Wiltshire Heritage Museum, The Kennet &Avon Canal Museum or
just complete another cache at The Caen Flight (GC6A72) in Devizes.
There are many public houses in the surrounding area for
refreshments or pub grub. The Public House situated at the top of
the Caen Flight is a particularly popular haunt as it is located on
the canal side. Good Hunting.
