The Alcoa Wellard Wetlands
is located on Zig Zag Road. From Perth drive south on the Kwinana Freeway, turn

at Zig Zig Road. Park in the small limestone car park on the right at the gate.
From the car park walk through the gate to the information sign.
Alcoa created the beautiful wetlands on land it once used for clay excavation –
land that was originally just flat, almost treeless farmland. Thousands of
eucalypt trees have been planted there and lakes created under an extensive land
rehabilitation program.
The area has become a unique habitat for more than 100 bird species, including
several thousand water birds that frequent the lakes in autumn when other
seasonal wetlands in the area are dry.
