The bravest animals in the land are Captain Beaky and his band.
That's Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat.
They march through the woodlands singing songs that tell how they
have righted wrongs.
Once Hissing Sid, an evil snake, kept all the woodland folk
awake.
In fear and trembling every night in case he gave someone a bite.
Poor Hissing Sid was the baddie in the story. He was caught
and brought to trial but escaped from the court in Rat's coat and
reckless hat after putting glue on Judge Pig's seat. (You can find
the full lyrics on www.captainbeaky. com).
Now, with apologies to Jeremy Lloyd, the story
continues.......
SSSaid Hissing Sid, "I'm very sssad. I'm really not at all that
bad"
Away he crawled with tearsss a-glissstening, thinking that no one
was lissstening.
But then a flash and puff of sssmoke and in the middle ssstood a
bloke.
"Who are you?" sssaid Sid with a yelp; "Your fairy Godfather, come
to help" (no sexist typecasting here !!)
SSSaid the fairy in a voice real gruff, "I think that you have
had enough
of not being liked. I have it planned for you to join Captain
Beaky's band."
Said Sid, who by now had lost his hiss " Are you trying to take
the mickey?"
The fairy replied "Bring to this wood, your pot of trinkets to
prove you're good."
" We'll hide it here but with GPS, -- cover so bad they might
need to guess.
Folks will come and say 'Well hid. Lets give three cheers for good
old Sid'
And when enough have been to see what a helpful snake you've turned
out to be
Then the bravest animals in the land, will welcome you to Capt
Beaky's band.
That's Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat."
Give him a chance, it'll take a good few to go to the
coordinates to find the first clue.
So cachers please come from near and far. Travel by foot or bike or
car
But one last warning as I finish my tale: Bring the pictures or
else you will fail.
Sid's Helpful Hints
The car park is at N50:55:268,W003:06:281.
This is a lovely woodland walk but GPS reception isnt good. Look at
the map in the car park and follow the main path down towards the
bridge.
Because it may be difficult for you to find some of my friends, who
are helping me, the good news is that I have left some photographs
of their locations. Unfortunately, the bad news is that the order
of the photos got mixed up when I dropped them. Well, us snakes
dont have hands!!
What other help can I give you? Well, wellies could be a decidedly
good idea for at least one member of the party. Finally, I should
bring plenty of bread in addition to your picnic but dont use it
all at once!!
NOTE---OCTOBER 2005. Unfortunately, the delicately painted
wooden spring loaded snakes which were used as the micro caches
onto which had been painstakingly hand seared the coordinates, fell
apart in the rain!! Now you are looking for the bog standard 35mm
film tubes.--Sorry
