Geocache Description:

As with most things I do for the first time, I am jumping feet first (up to my neck) and organizing my 1st Geocaching event:

Got_4by4s' 1st Ever (annual?)
Labor Day Weekend
Geo-Poker-Cache-Run

In the sports of Motorcycling and Boating they have ralleys of time and distance called 'Poker runs'. The idea is that you show up at a registration point, pay your fee, and walk, run, or speed through a series of checkpoints and wind up at some 'destination' to eat, drink and make merry till someone passed out the prizes or just passed out!

SO, Here is my idea for an authentic Geocaching Poker Run:

I am placing 5 cammo'ed ammo boxes, miles apart, in several cities surrounding my home town of Fullerton. These are real world caches that will be renamed and left for others to enjoy after the event. AND since they are, you will be allowed to log once for the event, and once for each cache for a total of 6!

At 7:00 am I will set up a registration table, open for only 3 hours (8:00 am til 11:00 am), at a park close to my home. It wil cost you nothing to play except your time. I will pass out the 1st of 7 playing cards and the location of your first cache. To have more people going at the same time this will be a 'shotgun' start with 5 people or groups going to each different cache at 5-7 minute intervals. You will then have 3 hours to complete the 5 caches. Afterwards you may go home and rest, clean up, or just do other caches in the area until the final event later in the day or evening.

I originally wanted this to be the first ever mystery/puzzle event where you didn't know where you were going until you did the puzzle. So you have to find a cache to get the coords to the next one and when you complete all 5 then you get the coords to the event. For this I will need 5 volunteers to be near but not 'at' each cache location. They will pass out playing cards and the coords for the next cache and when 5 are done, the event coords. They will also mark down arrival times and offer clues if needed. This IS a time and distance event.

There will be prizes awarded for the best poker hands along with; Slowest, Fastest, Best 'on' time, Theme award and a raffle. I might have several sponsors already lined up. Any other help, volunteers, sponsors and other prizes would be greatly appreciated. as of press time the final event site is still open.
