The Swauger Gravesite Cache Multi-Cache
BassSax: To all who have enjoyed this cache, thanks for your enjoyment ..and frustration in in finding it. Last year I had noticed that the park service had clear cut the area and probably removed the container. I'm going to give up this location to someone else who may want to take care of the cache and or locate their own in this area.
Thanks,
Basssax

This is a multi-cache. The listed coordinates on the page are those for the Swauger Family Gravesite. You will need to read the original tomb stone markers to get data necessary to calculate the final coordinate location.
This cache has been approved by the DNR.
John Swauger settled in an area of Garrett Co. in the mid 1800’s which is now New Germany State Park. He built a grist mill and saw mill. A dam was also built to power these mills, and the original dam gate still exists at the breast of the dam near the present swimming area. John later married Elizabeth Baer. They had nine children, one of whom was Charles Swauger, who was the father of Leland Swauger. After John Swauger died on October 11, 1878, Charles helped on the farm and ran the grist mill until the early 1900’s. Charles was also a mason, and helped to repair the Casselman stone arch bridge in 1911. John’s wife Elizabeth died on September 29, 1888, and was buried next to her husband in the family cemetery which overlooked part of the Swauger farm.
Later Leland and Stanley Swauger, grandsons of the original Swauger family repaired the original headstones of John and Elizabeth.
Please take time to reflect on the history of this area as there were other pioneer families who helped develop this area in the 1800's.
To get to the final cache location do the following:
1. Find the number of DAYS that John Swauger lived. Place .0 in front of this number. Subtract this number from the listed NORTH decimal minutes of the gravesite. Now add .034 to this new decimal minutes value. This gives the cache location for the NORTH decimal minutes location.
2. Find the number of DAYS that Elizabeth Swauger lived. Place .0 in front of this number. Subtract this number from the listed WEST decimal minutes of the gravesite. Now add .063 to this new decimal minutes value. This gives the cache location for the WEST decimal minutes location. No hints needed.
There is bushwacking necessary, but no poison ivy that I saw. Be cautious of where you place your hands and feet, as there are poisonous snakes in this area.
The original cache contents were:
4X4 Jeep Travel Bug "Loriena"
Blue diecast pickup truck
Plastic stencil
Small bungee cord
