Geocache Description:

In Old Shawneetown, IL.

Take a nice little walk along the Ohio River to find this cache.

The town of Old Shawneetown Illinois has flooded many times over the years. But none were like the one in 1937. Prior to that event the town was an early boomtown. Downtown businesses along main street thrived with commerce as it was also a well used riverport.

Sometime after the flood the army corp of engineers built a levee that runs the perimeter of the town along the banks of the Ohio river. On top of it behind the old downtown area a concrete seawall was also erected to help hold off old man river. A geodetic benchmark is located at the top of one end of the wall. I walked this wall and the levee many times as a kid. It seemed like I was really high up in the air and I was sometimes afraid of falling off. It is plenty wide for anyone with average balance to walk comfortably on. Need a better hint? Email me.

Let's try to go with an aquatic theme for this one. Bring trade items that would have something to do with bodies of water, fish and fishing items, boats, lighthouses, whatever you can think of along the theme.
Some of the original items include light up gold fish keyrings, a Jesus fish symbol, glass fish necklaces, and a couple of lighthouse pins.
