Geocache Description:

Located in the annex part of the Hop Brook Lake Recreation Area managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. This is a traditional cache located off a well maintained trail system. Hike is an easy 0.5 mile round trip suitable for smaller children. There is NO entrance fee for this part of the park. The cache was placed under a permit issued by the Project Office.

Park at the US Army Corps of Engineer’s Naugatuck River Area Office at 100 Allerton Farm Road which runs west of Route 63 in Middlebury, CT. The coordinates of the parking area are N41 30.985 W073 04.848.
Walk carefully along the road 500 feet NE of the parking lot to the gate into the trail. After crossing the rocky stream bear left on to the Blue Trail then right on the Red Trail. You can stay on trails (you have to figure out which one) until you get close to the cache. The trails are well maintained and easy – this is a good cache for smaller children. Walk is 0.5 mile round trip. Cache is a traditional ammo can painted brown. First time finder’s prize is a Dunkin Donuts gift certificate.

The main Hop Brook Lake recreation area is on the east side of Route 63. Opportunities for recreation at Hop Brook Lake include over seven miles of trails winding through woods and fields. Canoes, sailboards, and rowboats are welcome on the lake, however motor boats are not permitted. Fishing is also welcomed at Hop Brook Lake. The lake and its feeder streams are socked with brown, brook, and rainbow trout. Bass and panfish are also found in the lake. Tables and grills are available for picnicking. Picnic shelters (4 sites) may be reserved for group use by contacting the Project Manager's office . The beach and swimming area are especially popular during the warm summer months.
