Edited 4-28-2009

“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has grown to over two hundred seventy caches hidden in twenty-seven Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to ten cacher teams, nine of which of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 570 cacher teams have logged over 6,400 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #298
” TWO BROTHERS"

Welcome to Evergreen Cemetery, aptly named in Newville Twp., DeKalb County.Listen to the SHADOW:

This large & older cemetery is no longer used. Appropriately named, the pines in the area are very large. Several in the central area have been removed, leaving some huge stumps. The odor of pine can be quite strong when the air is calm.

What appears to be a new addition to the south is actually a separate cemetery, called Newville (or Riverside) Cemetery. The main entry & drive is the dividing line between the two.

The St. Joe river borders on the west side. This area is known as "Patrick's Bend". At one point, the embankment is so close, a few stones are leaning towards the river.

Due to the age and size, there are numerous Civil War veterans here, and very few of modern wars. Some of the state units represented here are In, Oh, Mi, & NY.

This is an interesting cemetery with many markers that are unique in their own ways. With the shade from the pines, it was an enjoyable couple of afternoons. --THE SHADOW
