Geocache Description:

This multi-part cache centres around and on mighty Mauao at the heart of Mt Maunganui so on a nice day you will be treated to many splendid views.

There is plenty of car parking in the vicinity of the first waypoint and a toilet and a bar and an ice cream shop and a café….hmm….lets just sit down and practice our trigonometry shall we! All the other waypoints and the final cache are accessible by foot only on well formed tracks. Wear some good footwear and be prepared for lots of zigging, zagging, thinking & climbing on this one. Allow plenty of time (half day) to mark each waypoint, take in the views, calculate the clues & perhaps soak yourself in the famous Mount hot pools beneath mighty Mauao – Enjoy!
PS1 It would be appreciated if you only take one TB at a time from this cache so as to provide some incentive for others to attempt this multi-cache – thanks.
PS2 Some of the intermediate waypoints on this multi-cache have taken a few vandal hits over the last year so the cache instructions have been changed slightly to make this cache more vandal proof and also more of a challenge.

Waypoint #1 is the starting point and is located at S37.38.037 E176.10.588. You will get to know a little about a Pioneer of the Port at this place of rest. Sit back and relax for a bit…save your strength for later!!. From here let the location of “Ranui” be S37.37.536 E176.10.A62 where the third numeral in “Bert’s” birth date equals “A”

Waypoint #2 is a storey of woe of Titanic similarity. From here let the location of “Moya” be S37.37.B90 E176.10.C60 where the number of letters in the first word of the storey of woe equals “B” and the third numeral in the year of woe equals “C”

Waypoint #3 is in memory of Moya. From here proceed to another resting place at S37.37.7D7 E176.09.999 where I wouldn’t talk about yourself if I were you and which is located in the vicinity of WP #4 and where the number of letters in “Moya’s” English surname equals “D”.

Waypoint #4 is well known by local Tui Beer officials as AB58 and is clearly labelled as such. You will have to clamper around and look for it. Try your hand at fishing if you have time. From AB58 let the location of Waypoint #5 be S37.38.100 E176.10.F10 where the number of letters in the first word of AB58 minus the number of letters in the third word of AB58 equals “F”

Waypoint #5 is at the centre of a small timber footbridge across a tiny waterway. From here let the location of WP#6 be S37.37.731 E176.10.G46 where the first numeral in the total number of timber planks on the footbridge equals “G”

Waypoint #6 is a spot where Bill Clinton or Ricky Martin might like to stand and let their fond memories return. From here let the location of Waypoint #7 be S37.37.H47 E176.10.I77 where the number of letters in the third word of the WP#6 tribute year equals “H” and the number of letters in the fifth word (abbreviated) in WP#6 equals “I”

Waypoint #7 is a great friend of all sailors. From here proceed directly to the WP#8 spot at S37.37.82J E176.10.31K where the number of letters in the name of the sailor's friend equals "J" and the number of letters in the place of origin of the sailor’s friend equals “K”

Waypoint #8 provides instructions for locating the final cache – You’re almost there!. This spot is not hindered by bush or trees so you should easily get a solid 7 satellite fix. Just crack the following simple coded message where, starting from the top, sequential non-repeating letters & numerals from this spot need to be matched up with letters of the alphabet, except that “Z” = “Z”
