Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in one of the newest reserves in the east.

The reserve at one time was going to become a quarry, and some areas were used for horse agistment. Its management was passed around between several different local and state government departments, most of who did nothing but cut the grass near the main road as a fire break. Many people saw the reserve as a place to dump rubbish, stolen cars and break down the fences so they could go off road with cars and bikes. Around the turn of the century there were many proposals as to what to do with the park and a “friends of group” was formed. Management is now shared between this group and the local council.

Please park at the provided car park (S 37 54.355, E 145 18.321). Best approach is to follow the main road fence line till you are opposite the house on the main road, turning to the north is a vague track through the grass just west of an old cyclone fence. This then becomes more established as it heads down to the old quarry site. (S 37 54.481, E 145 18.706) Once you find the cache you can continue down the track where it joins another and swings around to the south and returns to the fence line track.

Remember that this area is a bushland rehabilitation project and some weekends you will find the friends of in attendance doing some work. The cache site is moderately exposed.

In October 2004, a driver lost control of his car and went off the road into the bush. The car hit some trees, flipped through the air and caught fire. The evidence of this can still be seen in the pine trees that border the road, near the car park. Photo's taken the following morning, before the car was removed, can be seen on the Upwey CFA's Web site. The driver was found several hours after the accident about 1.5km away. He had minor injuries.

Cache initally contains a number of keyrings.
