It is difficult to accurately locate the source of any river,
and the Great Ouse is no different. There are many small
tributaries - but this pond, and the little fishing lake near to
the suggested parking spot (N52° 05.297 W001° 04.915), is close to
the recognised source near Wappenham Lodge Farm. The King's Head
Pub in Syresham (just downstream) is the start of the Ouse Valley Way, a 150 mile
route following the course of the river from source to sea. From
here in Northamptonshire it flows through Buckinghamshire,
Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk until it reaches the Wash,
near King's Lynn. It might make for an excellent series of caches
one day?
