From Whence the Ouse Oozes... Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

milvus-milvus: Went armed with towels for a maintenance visit today. A notice has appeared on the gate warning of "bull in field" [:o] - and someone has dumped the back end of a petrol tanker next to the cache, so it's not quite as picturesque as it once was. Cache was very exposed again too; so regrettably I think this one has run it's course (geddit?) [;)]

Geocache Description:

The River Great Ouse is the 5th longest river in the UK. It rises near Syresham, Northants - from where it meanders Eastwards all the way to the Wash in Norfolk.

It is difficult to accurately locate the source of any river, and the Great Ouse is no different. There are many small tributaries - but this pond, and the little fishing lake near to the suggested parking spot (N52° 05.297 W001° 04.915), is close to the recognised source near Wappenham Lodge Farm. The King's Head Pub in Syresham (just downstream) is the start of the Ouse Valley Way, a 150 mile route following the course of the river from source to sea. From here in Northamptonshire it flows through Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk until it reaches the Wash, near King's Lynn. It might make for an excellent series of caches one day?
