TVE: This cache was established carefully to ensure that it was accessible without disturbing anything, breaking any regulations, or encroaching on any restricted areas – though getting there was not always so easy. Circumstances have changed over the years and the original conditions no longer apply. It is time to close this chapter and archive this cache leaving only one of our original five caches still active on the archipelago. Thanks to everyone who sought this cache, hopefully doing so added to your enjoyment and knowledge of Svalbard.

Geocache Description:

Cache is located on Blomstrandhaløya, within sight of Camp Mansfield, the location of a very well organised, but ultimately unsuccessful, attempt to establish a substantial marble quarry. This is polar bear territory and suitable safety precautions are essential.

This is a standard geocaching.com microcache cylinder containing a log sheet and pencil. The whole area is important culturally and archaeologically and there are many artefacts and pieces of equipment which were abandoned with the failure of the nearby attempt to quarry marble in the early 20th century. All such artefacts should be left undisturbed!

The cache location can be accessed from the nearby settlement of Ny Alesund, by small boat in summer and snow scooter in winter. While hidden, the cache is easy to locate and there is no need to move or disturb any object in order to locate it.
