Off the Pink Trail in New Germany State Park; the small bag of
stones in the cache is a weight to keep small animals from carrying
it away.

This beautiful park takes its name from the 19th century farming
community that developed in this area and reminded early settlers
of their Germany homeland. Popular for picnicking and camping, New
Germany State Park lies within the boundaries of Savage River State
Forest. The 13-acre lake was formed when Poplar Lick Run was dammed
for mill operation. This impoundment, known as Swauger's Mill Dam,
was named for mid-nineteenth century sawmill and gristmill builder,
John Swauger.
