Geocache Description:


The town of Comfort is now a ghost town. It was a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad that ran through Alden, into Bellaire and then on to the north. It was located in Helena Township near where Comfort Road and the Alden Highway meet. Railroad agent Frank Lyon (my great uncle) became it's first postmaster on January 28, 1913. The town was only active for a couple of years and consisted of a store and a couple warehouses. Later Frank Lyon moved his store into Alden and was very sucessful. He also was the captain of the Ruth, a steamer ship that traveled the chain of lakes. To get to the cache you will need to go to the Grass River Natural Area off of the Alden Highway, before you get to Comfort Road. Park at the first area, by the old railroad tracks. Follow the railroad bed, which will be an easy walk. The town of Comfort was located further on down the tracks. It's only remnants are a cement step. The cache is an ammo can filled with lots of goodies. If you have time, head over the railroad bridge that runs over Finch Creek or follow the path to the benches over the creek and enjoy the sights and sounds.
