Shingle Shuffle Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

SecretFive: SecretFive(itzv)m&j
Headed out early evening to check on this cache.
As the 2 previous cacher's have said it looks like the info board at stage 1 has gone. Hmmm
We had a walk along the beach the dogs loved running along in and out of the water.
At GZ it appears the cache has gone. In it's place was a Tesco reusable carrier bag with some shells, a 50p and a small plastic cat toy. No cache container and no log sheet. Looks like someone at some point has placed the carrier bag here where cache was ? as a replacement.
Anyway, we have decided to archive this cache as no longer there and info board has gone.
We would like to Thank Thornproof for placing originally and to everyone who has found the cache over the years. It will be sad to archive. The area and the history will always be remembered. Hopefully one day someone else will place a cache again in the area.
Thanks [:)]

Geocache Description:

This is the third in a series of multi-caches we're hoping to set up in the area and once again we've built it round local history and places of interest.

The co-ordinates given are for the car park at the start of the walk.

Information gathered at the first set of co-ordinates will lead you to a second location, those at the second will lead you to the third and those at the third will lead you to the final cache site.

The walk (or cycle) to the cache is about 1.5 miles on mostly firm surface but beware of the Environment Agency lorries which have right of way over the tarmac track. They do not operate every day (and rarely at weekends) and you must give way to them, they will not slow down! Step off the tarmac and onto the shingle well before they reach you. There are various routes back to your starting point, straight back the way you came or you can take one of the alternative pathways to add a little variety to the walk and avoid the lorries. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is nearby so bring binoculars if you're interested in bird watching and waterproof footwear is recommended if you decide to take a wander on the beach. Beware of the mud holes!

The cache is traditional cache, a medium size plastic box, when placed contained a log book, a pencil and some topical ‘goodies’.

From the car park, walk up the steps onto the sea wall path to the first location

First location: N50 54.744 E000 43.653

To find the second location go to the information board and find the answer to this question:

In which year was the New Harbour opened?
Answer = ABCD

The Second Location is at: N50 55.JKL E000 44.MNM

Where

J = C - B
K = B - D
L = A + D - C
M = C/2
N = D - A

To find the third location look on the information board and find the answers to these questions:

How many birds are named (NOT counting the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve logo or generic terms i.e. ducks and waders)
Answer = E

How many birds are pictured?
Answer = F

How many plants are pictured:
Answer = G

The third location is at: N50 55.PQR E000 44.STU

Where

P = N - F
Q = M - G
R = E + J
S = E + G
T = F - K
U = P – T

For the cache location, find the answer to this questions:

In what year did tragedy strike?
Answer = 1V2W

The cache location is at:
N50 55. XLR E000 45.UYZ

Where

X = W – M
Y = V - U
Z = Y - N
