Geocache Description:

Located near Tonga Ridge by Skykomish. Many miles of roads and hiking trails lead to great viewpoints. Cache is about a 1/4 mile r/t hike through an old area that burned in a wildfire 25 years ago and was logged off. This is an excellent spot to bring a lunch and watch the world go by. You are looking for a 4x4 inch Lok-n-Lok at an elevation of 4007ft.

While camping at this spot to watch the Persieds meteor shower I decided this area had to have a cache. Go east past Skykomish and take the Foss River Road #68 near the Ranger Station. Pavement turns to gravel in a few miles and turn left on #6830. This excellent gravel road climbs to the top of Tonga Ridge and then goes up and down to a left hand spur road at N 47 41.841 W 121 12.198 Mileage from 6830 turnoff to spur road is 12.8 miles. All on a excellent gravel road, so any car can do this. Side spur is a bit rough and growing some greenery in the middle, but shouldn't be a problem for cars. Take the road to the right when you come to a Y. Road end is a nice camping spot with a great view. This area burned off about 25 years ago and you can see the burn scar as you drive up US 2 near Deception Creek. You'll be 2,000ft above US 2 and the valley to your right is Deception Creek. While camped here 2 groups of fighter jets roared down this valley below us and tore up the valley to the north. You won't need to bushwack much as the undergrowth is just starting to come back after the fire and the hillside is mostly open. There are lots of ripe huckleberries and the Fall colors from here are epic. Good chance to see wildlife and lots of wildflowers. Be very careful of the drop near the cache if you have kids.
