“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has grown to over three hundred caches hidden in twenty-seven Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to eleven cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 600 cacher teams have logged over 7,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #305

"KINGS ROW"

Welcome to Hooper Cemetery, Swan Township, Noble County. Many of our English sirnames denote an occupation. A Hooper was the fellow who put the hoops on barrels. He worked for a Cooper, the guy who made the barrels. If he did both, I suppose he was a Hooper-Cooper. Oh, well , Listen to what the SHADOW has to say about this place:

This cache will take you to an old, but active cemetery. It's rural and secluded location will afford you ample privacy during your visit. A nice peaceful area for taking a few moments, is located at the far southwest corner, as it's heavily shaded and sort of separated from the main area. Just look for the “King's Row”. There, also, you may see the oldest marker I found, dated 1845.

Surprisingly, I did not see any identifiable Civil War veterans markers. I'm sure they are here though. There is one from the War of 1812: Nathaniel Clary of a Maryland unit. There is a newer stone set with unit information, but his original is in remarkably good condition, with everything quite legible.

A WWI veteran is buried here as well. He has a cast iron plaque with unit information that's interesting. -–THE SHADOW
