This library started out as the West Barnstable School Library and
was renamed the Linder Library (around 1897) after the main donor,
Mrs. George Linder. In 1925 after a donation of $8000, the library
was renamed to the Whelden Memorial Library at the request of the
donors. This year also provided the library with electricity. Two
new wings were added to the structure in the early 70s, and again
in 1989. With each coming year the library continues to grow with
the support of the citizens of West Barnstable.
