Where:
Oak Picnic Area at Harvey West Park in the City of Santa Cruz.
When: April 2, 2006 from 11 a.m. to 2:30-ish p.m
What: Potluck bbq and picnic.
Who: Any carbon-based lifeform that is a member of
www.geocaching.com, and/or their kids, relatives, friends or other
(friendly) lifeforms.
Parking: Free parking is available at the park and on
nearby streets, but parking can be a bit of a challenge on the
weekends. We encourage carpooling, bicycling, walking, hiking,
taxis, parachuting, broomstick riding, use of portkeys, apparating,
piggybacking, horseback riding,
pretending-to-ride-horseback-while-clapping-together-coconut-halves,
and any other creative alternate means of environmetally-correct
transportation as you can dream up!
The Park: The picnic area has picnic tables and a bbq
grill. Nearby are restrooms (phew!), grassy fields, a swimming
pool, a playground with swings and acceptably relatively-safe play
structures, and other kid events.
Caches: There just happen to be a few geocaches in the
local vicinity, in general, should you wish to do some caching; but
(official disclaimer ) the seeking of geocaches is
not geo-officially part of the geo-official geocache event.
(Phew!)
What to bring: Potluck: bring your own main dish along with
a side dish that will serve a couple of people. This can be a
dessert, fruit salad, fruit dessert, cookies, cookie dessert, bag
of chips, chips dessert, chocolate, chocolate dessert, dessert
dessert, whatver, chocolate whatever, dessert whatever, whatever
whatever, etc.
Just post what you are bringing so that everybody doesn't bring the
same thing. (This seems to the easiest way to ensure that everybody
gets what they want to barbeque/eat and covers things in case
somebody can't come.)
We'll supply charcoal and charcoal-starter fuel, an ignition source
for the charcoal-starter fuel, paper plates, plastic utensils,
napkins and plastic cups.
Admission: Admission to the Park and to the Event is
free. We've fronted the funds needed to reserve the spot and host
the event: $170 (We'll gladly supply the supplies listed
above.)
A donation cache (ammo box) will be made available on-site, and any
donations would be greatly appreciated, but not required or
tracked.
(In the event that we collect more $ than we put out for the
event, the funds will be used for something related to geocaching
(like the next event? Fall back?)
Weather: Think good thoughts for good Spring weather for
this day!
3/28/ UPDATE:
ALCOHOL PERMIT:The alcohol permit has been secured for the
event for those of you who are interested.
HIGHWAY 17 & the CHP: It seems as if the CHP has
stepped up their law enforcement on Highway 17 in an effort to
reduce the rate of accidents. Please note that the speed limit for
Highway 17 is 50 mph. Please drive safely this weekend!
