Geocache Description:

The cache is a bison tube micro in Bellerive park, which has one of the best views of the Mississippi River in the city. There is a playground nearby so be discreet!

Near this location the City Of Carondelet was founded in 1767. At one time Carondelet encompassed an area from present day Meramec St. to the north, to a point one mile south of Jefferson Barracks. The western boundary was near Morganford Ave and the eastern boundary was the Mississippi river. In 1826 1702 acres of common ground was sold to the US government to be used for Jefferson Barracks. During the Civil War James Eads built gunboats for the Union Army near the foot of Davis Street. The City of Carondelet was annexed by the City of St Louis in 1870.
