You are looking for an ammo box near the summit of Bachelor Mountain.
For years, the hike up this hill has been one of our favorites. Park at the trailhead at N 44 37.066 W 122 02.064. The trail is 1.9 miles to the cache for a little less than 4 miles round trip. After 1.4 miles into the walk, you will find a well marked trail junction. Take the left hand trail for the last ½ mile walk to the top of Bachelor Mountain. You will climb in elevation around 1100’ with the top of the mountain just shy of 6000’. The open vistas along the trail provide spectacular views of the high Cascades.
After 14 years of flushing hundreds of pheasants, being an enthusiastic climber of hills and trails, endlessly fetching sticks thrown in lakes, and warming a spot on the floor of any room we happened to be in; we’re dedicating this cache to our “bird” dog. Please post any pictures of the hikers and scenery along this trail, but most especially, post pictures of any four legged companions that likely led the way to the top of the mountain.
