Kolvereid har ca. 1800 innbyggere og ble Norges minste by gjennom et kommunestyrevedtak 14.mai i 2002.
Kolvereid er et "ny by" i og med at stedet har utviklet seg voldsomt etter at det ble kommunesenter for storkommunen Nærøy i 1964. Derfor er det meste
av veier og hus nye. De fleste butikker og kafèer er samlet i en sentrumsgate, som ender opp i et torg som ble ferdig til Kolvereiddagene i august 2005. Kolvereid har også regionalt kulturhus, som er på reiseruta til
Riksteatret. Rundt Kolvereid er det turløyper for både sommer og vinter og tilrettelagte badeplasser og båthavn med gjesteplasser.

Approximately 1800 people are living in Kolvereid, which 14. May 2002 became the smallest town in Norway. Kolvereid is a "new city". Most houses and streets are new. You'll find one street in the centre of the city where you'll find most of the shops and Cafè's. Surrounding Kolvereid there are fine paths where you can walk both summer and winter. There are also places to take a swim and a marina.
