In 1886 an area of land betewen the Hacking River and the Sutherland Railway line was set aside for military training. By 1892 over 800 hectares of land had been cleared and the area was used by the military up until the early 1960s.
If you start your cache-hunt in Farnell Avenue you can follow the the Loftus Trig Management Trail through areas which still show the effects of the land clearing that was done over 100 years ago. A picture of how Loftus Heights looked in 1888 can be seen here.
The cache can be found about 100m from the trig station at the end of the fire trail. Mountain bikes are allowed in this area but the walk from the road is only about a kilometer over fairly flat terrain.
The vegetation has grown considerably since this cache was placed so the final approach is a bit of a bush-bash.
