Mundy Mourning Feeling Traditional Cache
Wotzit: It has proven to be a more difficult task than anticipated to find a suitable alternate hiding place for Mundy Mourning Feeling. I will archive the entry for the time being but hope to resurrect it in the near future.

Welcome to Shipley Park
Shipley Park was formally the country estate of the Miller Mundy Family who were in residence from the early 1700’s until 1922 when the estate was sold to the Shipley Mining Company. At the end of WWII, ownership passed into the hands of the National Coal Board when the mining industry was nationalised. In the 1970’s an agreement was struck between the NCB and Derbyshire County Council and the estate changed hands once again to become the Shipley Park as we see it today. The hall was eventually demolished in 1943 but the outline is still visible today. Other buildings associated with the estate, such as Home Farm and The Water Tower, are still intact although privately owned. During summer weekends a coffee shop and toilet facilities are available at Derby Lodge at SK43548 44407, which is close to the cache. The other ‘Mirror Image’ lodge, Nottingham Lodge, is further along the lane towards the American Adventure Theme Park, but this is also now a private residence. The ‘Mundy’ name is commemorated at various places around the Heanor area with such as ‘Mundy Street’, ‘Mundys Row’, and the ‘Mundy Arms’. If you want to read more about the estate a detailed description, along with the reason for it’s demise, is on an information board on the site of the old hall at SK43768 44267. Disabled parking for Blue Badge holders ONLY is also available here between 9.00AM and 4.30PM daily. Wheelchair access should be achieved from here to the cache site without too much difficulty but conditions can still be muddy in wet weather. More able bodies should park at either Mapperley reservoir at SK43523 43762, or the more distant Visitor Centre at SK43144 45257, where at both sites a parking fee of 50p per day is requested to be deposited in the ‘Honesty Boxes’ to help with the upkeep of the facilities. The Visitor Centre also has an excellent coffee shop, toilet facilities, and shop. The latter day fortunes (?) of the estate were based on the mining industry, and most of Shipley Park is situated on reclaimed colliery sites and opencast workings. Don’t let this put you off though because the park has now matured and celebrates its 30th year in May 2006. Shipley Park is a lovely location for walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing (permits available at visitor centre), bird watching, picnics, kite flying, or whatever it is you want to do in the countryside. Don’t forget your picnic, bring some bread for the ducks and enjoy yourself. Terrain is reasonable from no matter where you park, but can be wet and muddy especially if you decide to take a direct line across the fields (not pushchair friendly). However, stout footwear should be worn no matter where you start from. I have marked ‘Difficulty’ as 3 because of the tree cover, especially during the summer months. I would advise that you go with the spoiler clue and picture, just in case!
