This cache is located on the South Downs Way. The nearest car park is at the end of a badly signposted, very narrow, steep lane. The car park at Amberley Museum is also free of charge, but at the bottom of the hill.
The inspiration for this cache came from a magic book.
Meet CATWEAZLE: Who does not remember Catweazle - the Saxon Sorcerer with his “Familiar” Touchwood the toad and ancestor of boy wizard Harry Potter, as created by Richard Carpenter and immortalized by the actor Geoffrey Bayldon in the 1970s TV series!
Catweazle’s greatest ambition was to fly like a bird. However, something went badly wrong with his magic, and he flew through time instead. When he appeared in our modern age of “Electrickery” he took up residence in a disused water tower: CASTLE SABURAC.
It looks like we located Castle Saburac up here on the Downs, alas no sign of Catweazle. If you catch a whiff of the rank smell of 900 years of unwashed humanity the old Magician with the wispy beard in his long robe and rabbit fur boots must be nigh! But beware lest he catches thee lurking about his sacred abode and turn thee into a soft-backed beetle!
The container is a clip-lock plastic tub and on placement contained such magical items as Catweazle fridge magnets, thumb rings, bracelets, keyrings, magic slates, magnetic frogs and some non-magical items.
This can be combined with a number of nearby caches to make a nice short circular walk.
NOTE: MOVED ACCROSS PATH BECAUSE OF NEW FENCING
