Playing Detectives: Potton Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Hi-5ers: Visited this one after DNF. It has indeed gone and perhaps it's time to retire this after almost 18 years in the field.

Geocache Description:

The first hidden of a series of "Playing Detectives" caches. These are designed so that the geocachers will need to undertake some detective work in a town/village before getting the final cache co-ordinates. For geocachers with children, they also incorporate a playground on the route and do not involve very long treks or the need to get back in the car.

For "Playing Detectives: Potton", the detective work will yield figures that give the co-ordinates of the cache.

Potton is an ancient market town and its history can be traced back to the 10th century. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book. From the 12th century it had a flourishing weekly market. The presence of this market probably accounted for the large number of inns and public houses that were in the town - in 1903 about forty of these still remained. The railway which joined Potton with Bedford and Cambridge was closed in 1968. The station, built in 1862, still remains as a private house. Potton town centre is an excellent example of an enclosed medieval square (Market Square) containing several fine buildings which survived a disastrous fire in 1783. Parts of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin date back to 1250. (Information from Potton History Society)

Park at N52°07.611 W000°12.701. Walk to the town centre and around the Market Square finding answers to the following:
1. What year was the library re-built? Ans: abcd
2. What is the year associated with "WW" on a blue and white plaque? Ans: efgh
3. What year is on the sign by the pub door? Ans: jkmn

The cache is at N52°07.(g-c)f(h-e-j) W000°12.(k-j)n(g-f). Checksum = 50 and you can check your solution here. It is small but will take travel bugs.

One way of approaching the cache from the Market Square is to go by the car park and playground.
