Geocache Description:

A short walk along a pretty part of the the Stratford upon Avon Canal at Lapworth.

This is an easy cache to find on an interesting walk along the Stratford upon Avon canal in Lapworth. Parking is at N52 20.207 W001 43.682 off Brome Hall Lane by the canal basin where two canals meet. There is NO parking in Dick's Lane near the canal. There is a short stretch of canal linking the Grand Union and Stratford upon Avon canals which can make a circular walk taking in the cache, of about 3/4 hour. Of interest on the Stratford canal are the split bridges; these gaps enabled the bargees' horses to be transferred from bank to bank without having to unhitch the tow ropes from the horses. Another feature of this part of the canal is the barrel roof cottages. It is believed that they were made this way because they were built, for cheapness, by the men who built canal tunnels. There are various pubs nearby including the Wood which you pass if you do the circular walk. Two national Trust houses are nearby namely Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton. The cache is in a small size tupperware box. If you want to do the circular walk turn left past the cottage down Dick's Lane to the end, turn left and go onto the Grand Union canal by the side of the Bridge pub, turning left to get back to the car park.
