Geocache Description:

Please join us on Sunday January 15, 2006 for a day of Geocaching during the Grand Lake Snowshoe Festival in Grand Lake, Colorado! This fun filled day will start with a presentation describing GPS and Geocaching basics. Following the presentation will be two geocaching races to test your GPS and problem solving skills.

GRAND LAKE SNOWSHOE FESTIVAL GEOCACHE EVENTS

9:00 – 10:00 “HOW TO GEOCACHE WITH YOUR GPS”
Learn the Fundamentals of your GPS as they pertain to the hottest new game of geocaching. This presentation will teach you the basic fundamentals of how to use your GPS. This will include how to input waypoints (latitude and longitude coordinates), how to reach your destination using the GOTO feature, general set-up, orienteering basics, and basic map reading. Bring your own GPS and owner’s manual, extra GPS batteries, and a basic knowledge of how to operate the buttons and how to flip through the pages of your GPS. Also this presentation will include an overview on principles of geocaching.

Both Beginner and Advanced Geocaches will be held after the presentation so you can try out your skills and be on your way to finding new treasures.

10:30 – 12:00 “GRAND LAKE’S FUN-da-MENTAL TREASURE HUNT”
This event is geared to the first-time geocacher and families. Search the town of Grand Lake for clues, locate coordinates, and answer riddles on this fun filled mentally challenging multi-cache. All ages will enjoy this hunt. The group to find the most treasures wins. Groups of 2-5 people are required to participate. This event has a difficulty and terrain rating of 1/2.25. No special equipment is required.

12:30 – 3:30 “THE GRAND CACHE” Geocache Race
This multi-cache event will require using snowshoes to search for a series of waypoints/clues hidden in the forest. Problem solving, orienteering, and strategy will be required to find all the caches and solve the puzzle. The group with the best time and the answer to the puzzle wins.

All levels of geocachers are welcome to participate in this event, however experienced GPS users may have an advantage, so brush up on your GPS skills now!

The terrain is hilly and the snow depth will vary so this approximately 2½ mile race will require good physical stamina and proper winter attire. Groups of 2-5 people are required to participate. This event has a difficulty and terrain rating of 3/5.

EVERYTHING IS FREE, SO JOIN US AND HAVE SOME FUN!

PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED TO THE WINNERS IN EACH RACE!
These are games of Attitude at Latitude!
