Fractured Rock Traditional Cache
ramapo: This one too has been out for nine+ years. No finds in over a year. It isn't that remote! I guess it is too much trouble for geocachers to go hiking out in the woods in search of treasure. Well it is against the rules now anyway so it is more than time for this cache to go. Thanks to all who searched and found. Cache has been removed. Pretty quick find!

Here is yet another glacial erratic to admire as it sits alone in the forest. This one is in the less-visited area of Ramapo State Forest west of Ramapo Lake.
This is the first of two caches I placed while exploring the area between the Wanaque River and Ramapo Lake.
While this cache can certainly be approached from one of the traditional Skyline Drive spots, I suggest you try something different and park at N41 02.078 W074 17.119.
Follow the trail a short distance from the parking lot down to the Wanaque River where you'll find a very convenient crossing. This crossing and the immediate area may be problematic during high water. This is an interesting area, complete with old ruins and plenty of unmapped trails to explore
You'll soon see the well-marked, but unofficial, Indian Rock Trail. Take this up to the Cannonball, then follow it a short distance to an old carraige road that leaves to the left. Your GPSr will take you the rest of the way, which is mostly on trail, but some bushwacking will be required to reach the cache site. Cache is an ammo box with the usual.
You may notice another cache of mine, Ramapo West, not far off the Indian Rock Trail. I'm not sure about the approach from there and you might want to save it for the return trip.
